Hello, I am Lorella and this is my portfolio

I am a wife, a mom of 2 beautiful girls and I’m a hard-working designer. I also hold four qualifications as I have a National Diploma in Graphic Design, a Diploma in Marketing from the IMM, a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management from IMM and I have recently completed my Advanced Diploma in Management through Stadio (previously known as SBS – Southern Business School).

I am someone that loves to learn and enjoys both left and right brained activities. When I set myself goals, I stay motivated until I achieve them. I not only get joy from seeing my projects completed but I the joy that they bring to others. I have many talents and strengths like embroidery, model building and speaking Italian. I enjoy reading and drawing or painting to relive stress. I have a flair for working on projects/events from a managerial point and taking them from concept right through to completion.

I am the type of person who prefers to prove my abilities rather than trumpet my own horn. I enjoy sharing my opinions and I am able to grow and develop from constructive criticism and find this helps me to push myself to produce even better work for my team, manager or clients. I love to learn new things and challenge myself with new avenues of study or techniques. I am not afraid of admitting my shortcomings and acknowledging I have no experience in a certain field or program. I use this as an opportunity to take on the challenge of learning and developing a new skill to the best of my ability and ensure that I enhance my knowledge base. I’m just as comfortable with analytical and administration work and I am highly proficient in this area.

Below are examples of the different types of works I’ve worked on….

Digital

I am very passionate about digital artworks and I'm always eager to learn more and more about digital work and the background data that goes with it. I have worked on individual projects as well as complete campaigns across different digital elements from banners, e-mailers and social posts. I have worked on both single and multiple shaped campaigns that require both static images and basic motion gifs. I'm also learning how to create website content with Zmags and I have done a short coarse in UX/UI design thinking for apps. I'm also in the process of completing another coarse in UX/UI design.

"A dream does not become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work". ~ Colin Powell, former U.S. Defense Secretary

Print

I have worked on a full composite of printed elements from Game product & price leaflets, catalogues and forms/documents to flyers, posters e.t.c. I have had the privilege of working on projects from creating my own template right through to placing the products and prices into the templates and producing print ready artwork with a full digital campaign to go with it.
I have also recently been trained to use RMS software to manage my workflow and design jobs. I have also had the privilege of working with t he developers to design a working pricing solution for the team.

POS Signage

Campaign artwork and key visuals are supplied to us internal designers and then adapted by me to work in the different die-lines for the store point of sale signage. Thought needs to be given as to where they will be displayed and how to make the artwork visibly attractive and informative to customers. Once all the elements have been adapted into their given shape, form and space they are then mocked up visually into store images so that the stores know how and where to place the given elements. These mock ups with additional information are then compiled into a signage manual that is e-mailed to all the stores. This ensures consistency and uniformity across all the Stores.

Permanent Signage

This is another knowledge area that I'm very passionate about. I love designing with an understanding of not only what is required to achieve the marketing and graphic goals of the artwork but also being able to understand how it is manufactured and what will work best to manufacture it and design it accordingly. This involves understanding the many different processes of steel, perspex, vinyl, wallpaper, print, boards, fabrics and so on. I worked on all internal and external signage (including pricing systems) for the new look 2017 Game store. I was also tasked with building and maintaning the signage manual and online library of standard artworks for the new look artwork for the signage suppliers.

Publishing

Working on more involved projects that are designed to be around in the market for more than just a week or two, comes with a great feeling of accomplishment. It's amazing to see and still be able to come across these works in the market place today.
There were many different learning's that came from working on these projects and the amount of detail that was required to get it done correctly. Working on larger projects that required working in a team and the smaller projects that were done as an individual. I was taught to not only work digitally but to create with my hands and incorporate my personal style into the final digital work that was presented and adapted for production.

Product branding and design

Designing for products that were intended for the South African tourist industry allowed me the opportunity to grow my knowledge of design for different industries such as clothing items, magnets, stationary, postcards, stickers, coasters and so much more. I also learned how to communicate effectively with both local and international suppliers and learnt the required explanations needed to achieve the desired results. I learnt different design techniques and applications across the different substrates needed to produce the final product. I also then learnt how to design the packaging that would house the product while in the stores and waiting to be sold.
